Introduction to the toxicity of PET raw materials-film supplier

The raw materials involved in PET synthesis, terephthalic acid, ethylene glycol, and antimony-based catalysts all have a certain impact on human health. The specific hazards are introduced as follows. Terephthalic acid: It is a white, loose crystalline powder at room temperature, non-toxic and flammable. Irritating to eyes, mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract. Ethylene glycol: It is a low-toxicity substance. Inhalation of heated ethylene glycol vapor or accidental drinking of ethylene glycol can cause acute poisoning; if long-term inhalation of glycol vapor, chronic poisoning will occur. The rat LD50 is 5.5~8.54mL/kg, and the human oral LD50 is 80~100g. The concentration of ethylene glycol in the blood reaches 2.4g/L, which can cause acute renal failure. The manifestations of inhalation poisoning are confusion, nystagmus, protein, calcium oxalate crystals and red blood cells in the urine. Antimony catalysts: Antimony catalysts are the most commonly used catalysts in polyester production. They mainly include antimony trioxide, antimony acetate, and antimony glycol, all of which are white crystalline powders. Antimony acetate and antimony glycol will decompose into acetic acid and antimony oxide fumes when heated. Antimony oxide fumes are highly toxic and can cause gastrointestinal disorders, vomiting, diarrhea, and neurological diseases.
