Even if the strength is increased to a certain extent by increasing the size of the surface bumps (such as the micrometer scale), most of the lotus leaf-like materials are easily scratched or torn, and at the same time, their waterproof performance is impaired. To solve this problem, the Rühe team took inspiration from reptiles and developed a material that can shed the outer layer. The Rühe team improved the superhydrophobic material into a self-healing material with a three-layer structure. The top layer is a hydrophobic membrane composed of poly 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorodecyl acrylate (PFA), also called 'nanograssThe nanostructure obtains hydrophobic properties. Under this layer is polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), a water-soluble polymer used in various medical applications. The bottom layer is a super-hydrophobic thin film silicon nanograss. This three-layer structure ensures the 'molding' performance of the material. When the surface layer is worn, the material is immersed in water and the interlayer dissolves water, which makes the damaged top layer loose and fall off, exposing the new hydrophobic layer below. This is just like 'snake slough' in appearance. Regardless of the multi-layer superposition, the interactive superposition of the two types of materials is a major technological innovation of new waterproof materials. It is difficult to achieve close adhesion of different materials without detracting from each other. The interlayer also improves the overall strength of the material, which is more than ten times higher than the strength of a single layer, and it is resistant to pulling and tearing and cutting.
